Yes, yes – still going with the juice posts! I just can’t help but keep sharing the recipes I loved. And now that I’m a week removed from the cleanse, and am really seeing how it jump-started a round of even cleaner eating. So maybe it will inspire you too? This juice is reminiscent of my carrot apple beet juice that I’m such a fan of in the summer time. I think beets are highly underrated. They’re earthy but also a little sweet. And just look at the color. When else do you find food this color that is real food? No fake stuff, no imitations, just real natural magenta color. That’s just crazy.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of eating lots of different colored foods. I, of course, am always cognizant of greens [hence the name of this blog] but all the other colors are important too. For example, orange foods like sweet potatoes, carrots, and obviously – oranges are full of beta-carotene, vitamin A and C. Beets are one of the best sources of folate and what’s even cooler – what gives the beets their color has been shown to fight cancer (in mice). One can hope that also means in humans too. We’re not that different, right?
I am just in love with the color of beets. It’s been so long since I’ve done anything with beets, I may just have inspired myself to whip something up that’s extra beety. I just have to remind myself to be careful when I’m juicing – it can be easy to overflow the jar and that magenta juice can stain clothes, hands and counters!
So have I convinced you to love beets yet? I hope so. I also hope it sways you to try this juice. The apples and oranges help sweeten up the beets for those of you who may not love the earthy flavor. Me? I love it. Might as well just throw a clump of soil in there for me and I’ll be happy as a clam.
If you’re sensitive to earthy, just add more apples or oranges. It’s easy peasy. Add this juice to your rotation whether or not you’re taking up a cleanse. Your body will thank you.
Beet Apple Orange Detox Juice
What You’ll Need:
- 2 big beets (or three small beets)
- 1 apple
- 1/2 orange
- 2 stalks of celery (it helps water it down a bit, you don’t even taste it)
Start by juicing the beets, add the celery, then apples, and oranges. Serve chilled and enjoy!
I love beets too! I think their brilliant magenta natural coloring is so lovely. How much juice do you get from a raw beet? I’ve always been curious to try. I try to use a few high-yield ingredients in each of my juices to make it a bit more economical, too.
It all, of course, depends on the beet but I usually get about 1/3 – 1/2 of a glass full from 1 to 2 beets, depending on the size. That’s why I usually mix them with a higher-yield fruit – like the apples and oranges, that easily fill up the rest of the glass no problem.
I think beets are the unheralded superfood of champions (not kidding) so I love a juice recipe with them! PerfectM
Thanks so much, Laura! 🙂
