Irving Farm – Upper West Side

Do you ever have those days where the weather is gorgeous, you’re just sitting around and a friend randomly suggests meeting in half an hour for lunch? Well that is how I ended up at Irving Farm recently and I couldn’t be happier that I took liberties with their menu and created my own vegan-friendly super yummy sandwich.

But first – a little bit about Irving Farm. I’m not sure when exactly they opened up here (on 79th and Broadway) but the place is about as adorable as crunchy granola coffee shops go. There’s outdoor seating (yay!) a communal table, and a back room with more seating.

It has a small-ish menu but just exactly enough options to make everyone happy. (And speaking of happy – they have tofu cream cheese! I love pretty much ANY place that has tofu cream cheese)

Alas, I digress. This lunch catch-up was not a time for bagels. This was a time for a sandwich. There was one I was particularly drawn to – the feta sandwich with roasted tomatoes and beets served pressed on a hearty ciabatta that’s pressed and served warm. But of course the feta was not going to fly. So after thoroughly confusing the cashier by ordering the “feta sandwich without feta but can you add hummus?” I was left with this little gem. It was delicious if I do say so myself! (and they didn’t even mess up the order!)

A great meal paired with a great conversation and a laid-back country-ish atmosphere I’m quickly going to become a regular here.
